I've Waited 4 Years For This....

I saw the Sex and the City movie on Sunday with my mom and sister. I couldn't even stand it - it was absolutely fabulous.

SATC.JPG

It was so great to see the four ladies back together, now on the big screen. I know it hasn't received the highest reviews from critics. But to SATC fans, it's not a movie as it is a one final, long episode full of chaos, clothes and cosmos. Plus, there's been speculation of a sequel - I'll buy my movie ticket now please.

White Party

I went to a friend's birthday party this weekend where everyone was required to dress in white, otherwise known as a "white party". I attended the party with my cousin and her husband. As we were walking to the door of the hotel, the photographer for the party asked if he could get a group picture of us. It reminded me of how they take pictures of you once you enter a theme park.

The ballroom was decorated with gold balloons, white balloons and white table cloths with gold napkins folded like a princess crown. Of course the first thing I noticed was the abundance of food! I must say the DJ's music was just as good as the food...a good time was had by all!

The photographer was taking pictures of everyone else so I returned the favor!

Another day at the beach

After my fabulous trip to Miami, I spent part of Memorial Day at Sandy Point Beach in Annapolis, MD. with my cousins. We barbequed, played in the ocean and swam. It was so much fun! Spring and summer are without a doubt my favorite seasons because of the warmer weather. I can never get enough of the sun, the ocean and let's say it together.....good food!

Volleyball anyone?!

On the Spot

Check out my family's dog - Abbie! She's a yellow lab. We adopted her 6 years ago from a family in Texas. Her legal name is just as big as the Lone Star state - her papers say..."Abigail Little Star of Texas."

ABBIETONGUE.JPG

Plus, Abbie has the genes and the lineage to be a show dog - but only if she keeps her mouth closed! Take a look at her tongue - it's covered in spots! So Abbie could never win Best in Show, but she's definitely an award-winning dog to us!

A Renewed Past Time!

This past Wednesday Kiersten and I went bike riding for the "In Your BackYard" segment that we air on Thursday mornings. When I went riding on Wednesday, it really brought back fond memories of my bike riding adventures when I was younger, especially when I saw the grease from the bicycle spokes on Kiersten's calf. I can distinctly remember my cousin and I would literally bike all day long and come home often with grease from the spokes and bike chain on our calves. I must say that I am hooked again! I can say without a doubt that the bike ride I took on Wednesday will not be my last.

We are getting ready to ride safe...look at our helmets!

A Sizzlin' Weekend

What a H-O-T weekend. Just like my cat's name, it was "muy Caliente!"

I spent the weekend at the beach. Here's a picture of Andrew and me. I didn't do my hair all weekend because it was too stifling -- I wish I could do this during the work week!
beachbest.jpg

It was a hazy, lazy day.
beachc.jpg

I tried to stay indoors - reading one of my favorite books, All the President's Men. It's about the Watergate scandal told by Washington Post reporters, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. Love it.

The Sale of the Season

This is a sale of all sales. A glorious time where girls will camp out and women in pearls will run you over.

It's the Lilly Pulitzer Warehouse Sale. The bi-yearly clothing event starts today and runs through Saturday at the Valley Forge Convention Center. It's not that far -- just down the turnpike from Harrisburg, about an hour from Lancaster, 1.5 hours from York. Definitely worth the trip.

I am always trying to save money and with basement bargain deals of 75% off this is a great place to stock up on birthday gifts, holiday presents and prizes for yourself! I think my sister and I are going Thursday.

My Top Five Animated Movies

This week's In Your Backyard talks about a local, mobile drive-in theatre that travels around our area showing animated flicks.
And the segment made me think of my favorites.
Here's my list.

1. Cinderella - A classic. Every girl loves her shoes and her Prince Charming.
2. All Dogs Go To Heaven - This movie always makes me cry.
3. The Little Mermaid - I know every word, to every song in this Disney flick.
4. Shrek 1, 2 and 3 - Amazing series. It's coming to Broadway this winter AND I'm pretty sure Caliente looks like (and sounds like) the character Puss 'N' Boots. See?

pussnboots2.jpg

5. Toy Story, The Incredibles and Monsters, Inc are tied. They are awesome for kids with hilarious adult innuendoes.

Magic Happens

Have you wondered how I come up with a weather forecast everyday? If you have, keep on reading. Magic happens every morning in the "Weather Lab" as the Fox43 meteorolgists call it from time to time but better know as the weather office. There are so many "toys" we as meteorologist get to play with. The one I know most of you are familiar with is the radar. There are 6 computers in the weather office and all 6 of them serve different but multiple purposes. Such as looking at different models, building the graphics you see on air every morning, retreiving current temperatures, displaying watches and warnings, and one of the computers is the radar which picks up on rain, snow and thunderstorms ect. Wow, it is a lot to digest but it is all worth it when the forecast comes together or what I like to say when "Magic happens"!

Welcome to the world of weather!

It's all about the food!

Over the weekend I really engaged in an activity that I truly love and enjoy.....eating! I ate so much over the weekend that even I really had to take a step back and say the words that so many people have been saying to me since I was a little girl "Wow, Lynette you really do eat a lot!" but after I uttered those words, I picked my spoon back up (yes I was eating ice cream at the time) and went back to my happy place! I literally lived at the Dutch Farmers Market in Maryland. It has everything and it's fresh and almost everthing is home made or made from scratch from the bread to the cakes, pies and ice cream!!!

Another place I frequented was Cheeburger, Cheeburger. Actually, I went there before I went to the Farmer's Market for the first time during that weekend. People told me that the food was good but that the milkshakes were even better.....and they did not tell a lie! I got a blueberry cheesecake milkshake....mmm....good! If you looked up the synonym for food you would see my picture with a huge smile on my face.

What's a girl to do....so many flavors, not enough time!

Just "Fore" Father's Day

My parents, my sister and Andrew love to golf. Me on the other hand, I love to dress like I'm golfing. But since I don't want to be left in the sand trap (golf term) - I'm slowly picking up the sport. So we all played "fore" Father's Day.
golfjul.jpg
We hit the greens at Broad Run Golf Club in West Chester. My sister works there and she was able to squeeze us on for 9 holes.
golfandrew.jpg
Andrew is an awesome golfer. I'm more Happy Gilmore - especially because I've played field hockey for so many years. Despite my hacking and mulligans (more golf phrases - I'm getting the terminology down) we still had a spectacular day. Happy Father's Day Dad!

Um...What's Happening?

That's the question I was asking as my sister Juliana and I watched The Happening at the theaters this week.

We are fans of the director, M. Night Shyamalan. You know him from The Sixth Sense and Signs. He's from Philadelphia and shoots a lot of his films right near our house. ( In fact I tried out as an extra in The Village. Alas, I was not hired. But I'm over it...almost)

happening1.jpg

But back to The Happening - what happened? I was hoping for a great, sci-fi with Mark Wahlberg. Instead it was slightly cheesy, lame dialogue, poor acting - and in one scene you can totally see the microphone! So my expert movie review: The Happening is so not happening.

Go on.....give it a try!

Kiersten and I went on a skate boarding adventure yesterday. When we first decided that we were going to go skateboarding we were really excited but things changed once we saw the skateboard ramp and the skateboarders doing their tricks. We went from excited to anxious to down right scared about standing on the skateboard and let's not even mention trying to do the tricks! I must say, Kiersten and I are two brave souls. We put our nerves aside and went for it! Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that we will be skateboarding with Tony Hawk but what I am saying is that you never know what you can do unless you try. Kiersten and I gave it the ol' college try and came to the conclusion that we will leave skateboarding to the professionals!

Kiersten and I get instructions from Ryan, one of the skateboarders

A Beauty Secret I Can't Keep...

...so I have to share it with you. I call it "sleep in a bottle" or a "sleep in a wand." It's Lancome's Flash Retouche.
LANCOME.jpg
It's a skin concealer/highlighter. Put a little around your eyes and it looks like you slept a full 8 hours. Sheer amazement. And since I wake up at 1:30 in the morning, it is a must-have in my beauty bag.

It is a bit pricey -- around 28 bucks -- but it lasts me six months.

Now, if it could only clean Caliente's litter box and do my laundry - then it'd be a real magic wand.

June 23, 2008

Is My Cat Fat?

I'm afraid Caliente is an over-eater. I only feed him twice a day -- about a cup each serving. But he licks the bowl clean (dry or wet food) and it's not long before he wants more. He'll meow, cry and if I'm sleeping, hit me in the face -- just to get fed.
cali3.jpg
So the vet said try to keep him at a healthy weight. And I'm listening to that advice, especially since it looks like male orange tigers can get huge. Check out Orazi! He weighs 35 pounds - that's triple Cali's weight! Orazi lives in Italy so I believe he's just bulking up on all that pasta and bread.

You Can Get Something For Free!

A few weeks ago, myself and Toshi (Morning Show writer/producer/extraordinaire) started signing up for free samples and trials on Walmart's website.

It was super simple. Just click on what you want - enter in your address, email, and birthdate. And then a few weeks later, my mailbox is flooded with goodies.

Check out what I got, for FREE!

Cereal, vitamins, crystal light and more is on the way.

This site is great because they never use your personal info except to send you freebies. You won't get any emails and you don't have to rate the products! I love it.

Lions, Tigers and Bears..Oh My!

My cousin, her daughter and her daughter's friend and I went to a fun place over the weekend. The place we went to had lots of animals, a gift shop and plenty of good food.....if you are thinking that we went to the zoo you are absolutely....wrong, but that was a good guess! We actually went to The Rainforest Cafe. It is a restaurant that is littered with beautiful aquariums, gorrillas, snakes, crocodiles, elephants, monkeys ect. and it even has a beautiful water fountain and gift shop!

By the way, if you go don't be caught off guard if a child you are with, or maybe even an adult ends up in your lap because the animals animate, what seemed to be every 10-15 minutes. It was very entertaining but also a little scary! I could have sworn one of the gorillas was staring at me while I was eating but what was really bizarre was that they were not supposed to be moving at that time!

What a vision...the water fountain is nice too!

My buddy

I believe people come into your life either for a reason or for the season. I also believe that there are some people who you just click with and my buddy, JD Morgan is one of those people! I met JD at my last station in Chattanooga. We both worked weekends. He directed the 6 and 11pm shows (and still does) and I forecasted the weather during the same hours. I must say, and he would agree that we clicked right away! In the 3 years I was there, JD and I have formed an unbreakable bond. If you are lucky and blessed enough to cross the path of a person who is as loyal and good as JD, I hope you realize that this person has come into your life for a reason not the season. Like the Good Guys Doll, Chucky....JD and I are friends to the end!!

JD and me....say cheese!

Celebrate Lancaster 2008

Friday night I was one of the hosts for Celebrate Lancaster! It was held downtown in Binns Park.
coloradobeach%20012A.jpg
It turned out to be a gorgeous night. The rain passed and then a ton of people armed with lawn chairs came to watch a great comedian and listen to the spectacular Lancaster Symphony Orchestra.
coloradobeach%20019A.jpg
There was only one disaster.
In between the performances, I had a chance to chow down on BBQ beef, pasta salad, green beans - all delicious. But only after taking few bites, I somehow slid my chair in and tipped the entire dinner onto my lap. Veggies slid down my leg, my fork became a projectile weapon and my dress was covered with grease and olive oil. And I still had to get up and speak before hundreds of people! AHHHH!
Luckily, my friend Justin (we've been bff since 6th grade) came to the rescue, along with Fox43 Photographer Anthon Grove, with water and napkins.
coloradobeach%20023A.jpg
You can't see it in the pictures but this dress is heading to the dry cleaners!

Wish You Were Here...

...is what I heard from my parents and sister all last week as they traveled out west to visit my Aunt Lisa and Uncle Geoff.

coloradobeach%20004a.jpg

They live in Durango, Colorado - the southwest corner of the state where the elevation is 8 thousand feet above sea level. I haven't visited yet but you can just tell it's beautiful in these pictures. (This is my sister and my dog-cousin Yukon. He's ready for the boat, wearing his doggles.)

coloradobeach%20003a.jpg

Anyway, along my family's travels they visited the Loretto Chapel in Sante Fe, New Mexico. I am SO jealous because this is the church with the "mysterious staircase."
According to the chapel's website, during the 1800's, a mysterious carpenter showed up at the poor church to help them build a staircase. He left without anyone knowing who he was or where he came from. But he built an amazing staircase, that allegedly is built without any nails or support.

coloradobeach%20001a.jpg

So who knows what the truth is -- but I want to go there and see it for myself.
