...is what I heard from my parents and sister all last week as they traveled out west to visit my Aunt Lisa and Uncle Geoff.

They live in Durango, Colorado - the southwest corner of the state where the elevation is 8 thousand feet above sea level. I haven't visited yet but you can just tell it's beautiful in these pictures. (This is my sister and my dog-cousin Yukon. He's ready for the boat, wearing his doggles.)

Anyway, along my family's travels they visited the Loretto Chapel in Sante Fe, New Mexico. I am SO jealous because this is the church with the "mysterious staircase."
According to the chapel's website, during the 1800's, a mysterious carpenter showed up at the poor church to help them build a staircase. He left without anyone knowing who he was or where he came from. But he built an amazing staircase, that allegedly is built without any nails or support.

So who knows what the truth is -- but I want to go there and see it for myself.

Kiersten,
Yukon missed you and wants to say that he enjoyed having everyone out and would like to go jeeping with you and Andrew next summer wooo wooo :)
The staircase is amazing if anyone heads out to Santa Fe, it is a must see! In the meantime, we'll keep the location of the first photo a secret as this is truly on of the last unspoiled areas of the country ;)

The doggles are cute. Where can I get a pair for my Chihuahua? I would love to see that staircase also, it looks amazing!

This is the site for Susan looking for Doggles for her Chihuahua. They are excellent for any dog who spends time in the sun and needs eye protection! Yukon loves them when it rains and he is jeeping in the mountains, he will leave them on in that case. Otherwise, he quickly pulls them off. We live at high altitude which is why they are popular in Colorado (got them in Telluride). Higher elevation = higher eye risk to humans and pets.
